Continuing with the taranto in rumba rhythm

Javier explained that there are three basic 'tonos', which is strictly "tones", as in "Quintet in C Major". Flamenco calls these "Por arriba" (effectively E), "Por medio" (A) and "Por taranto" (see below). The first two are the more important of the three and one finds that most bulerias and soleares are played either por arriba or por medio, though one can play them por taranto.

Por arriba sequence

A min G F E9

E ----0-----0-----0-----0------

B ----1-----0-----0-----0------

G ----2-----0-----2-----1------

D ----2-----3-----3-----3------

A ----0-----2-----3-----2------

E ----------3-----1-----0------

Por medio sequence

D min7 C? ? A

E ----1-----0-----0-----0-----

B ----3-----3-----3-----2-----

G ----2-----3-----0-----2-----

D ----0-----2-----3-----2-----

A ----------3-----1-----0-----

E ----------------------------

NB. It is important in that last A chord that you use the index finger of left hand to stop the D and G strings, with the middle finger stoppping the B string (i.e. not just barreing the three strings or using index, middle and ring) - we will need the ring finger later to do some hammer-ons and pull-offs on the 3rd fret of the G string.

Por taranto chords

E ----0-----0-----0-----0-------

B ----3-----2-----0-----0-------

G ----4-----0-----0-----0-------

D ----4-----2-----3-----4-------

A ----2-----0-----2-----4-------
